The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Instrument-Helicopter Rating is an add-on rating to any pilot certificate. The Instrument-Helicopter Rating provides a pilot the privilege to control the helicopter by reference to the instruments in Instrument Meteorological Conditions (IMC), such as conditions less than Visual Flight Rules (VFR) conditions. Instrument-Helicopter rated pilots are knowledgeable in controlling and navigating the aircraft by reference to the instruments, rules and regulations, flight planning, systems, human factors, and how the air traffic control system applies to Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). Candidates must meet prerequisite and training requirements. Candidates must pass a written and practical exam.
