Job Description
Perform various tasks to arrange and direct funeral services, such as coordinating transportation of body to mortuary for embalming, interviewing family or other authorizing person to arrange details of funeral service.

Training/Education
Entry level for embalmers and funeral directors require at least 15 months in an accredited school of Mortuary Science, with 1 year internship.

Requirements for License
Funeral Directors Internship:
1. Twenty-one years of age or at least 18 and legally emancipated.
2. Thirty semester hours (basic freshman courses) in a SACS accredited university prior to registering internship.
3. One year internship, fully employed for 40 hours a week, and must assist in at least 25 cases.
4. Must pass a state board exam with an average of at least 75.
Embalmers Funeral Director Internship:
1. Twenty-one years of age or at least 18 and legally emancipated.
2. Fifteen months in an accredited mortuary science program.
3. One year internship, fully employed for 40 hours a week, and must assist in at least 25 cases. Up to six months may be served prior to attending mortuary science program.
4. Must pass a state board exam with an average of at least 75.
