Licensure Requirements


A person applying for licensure as a professional engineer in Nebraska must submit a completed applicationalong with applicable filing fees. A separate application is required for each discipline the licensee wishes to be licensed.  Initial Licensure Education- A degree from an ABET/EAC or CACB-accredited engineering program.  Persons not holding a degree from an ABET/EAC or CACB-accredited engineering program must have their education evaluated by National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) Credentials Evaluations to determine if the individual's education meets the NCEES Education Standard. Any deficiencies must be removed prior to approval by the Board. Examination- Successful passage the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Exam and the Principlesand Practice of Engineering. All exams are administered through NCEES for the Board. For exam specifications, visit the NCEES website. Experience- Show satisfactory evidence of four years of progressive engineering experience acceptable to the Board.A master's Degree in engineering may count toward one year experience, and a doctorate in engineering may count toward two years' experience. Licensure by ComityHold an NCEES Record in good standing, which verifies that the applicant meets NCEES Model Law Engineer (MLE) standards;-OR Meet the initial licensure requirements in Nebraska;-OR Have been licensed for a minimum of 15 years as a Professional Engineer in at least one other licensing jurisdiction in good standing.  All Professional Engineer license candidates must also pass an exam on the statutes, rules, andother requirements unique to Nebraska. Please see ea.nebraska.gov/engineer-initial-licensure for more information.
