Examination Requirement: 8-hour National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCEES) Fundamental Engineering (FE) examination.
Certification: Engineering in Training (EIT)
Renewal: none
Examination Frequency: Year-round examination cycle. For details, see our website: www.bpelsg.ca.gov.
Exam Locations: Statewide at designated locations. See NCEES website: www.ncees.org.
Experience Requirement:
Three years or more of postsecondary engineering education,
OR
Three years or more of engineering-related work experience,
OR
A combination of postsecondary education and experience in engineering totaling three years.
Average Time to Process Application: Up to sixty days.
Comments: All applicants are required to register for the examination and pay their examination fee directly to NCEES. This process applies to ALL applicants, including those who are re-filing or re-taking an examination.
Step 1: Register with NCEES during open registration period.
Step 2: Pay NCEES for national exam-related expenses during registration process.
Step 3: Those candidates who pass the FE examination are required to submit the certification application form and application fee to the California Board to obtain certification as an EIT.
